MBARI’s ROV Doc Ricketts is believed to have recently produced the very first video footage of a live deep-sea anglerfish in its natural habitat. These elusive and strange animals are rarely seen because of the depths at which they live. In fact, we only have only captured about half a dozen of them on film. However, this Black Seadevil which was named Melanocetus was found and filmed in Monterey Canyon at a depth of about 600 meters. This footage was taken in November 2014 and you can see the 9 centimeter fish as it was seen by the midwater research expedition.
